Putting First Things First

Before You Begin

As we begin this new year together, it’s a chance to have a fresh start, a chance to begin again!  That’s important for you individually, but it’s also important for us collectively as a church.

You know, whenever you set out on a journey, or start a new project, or begin to do anything of any significance, you always take a moment to think about what has to happen in order for what you want to happen to actually happen.  And more often than not, there’s an order to things.

Putting First Things First

Before you get to that vacation spot you’ve got to pack your bags, you’ve got to get into the car, and then you’ve got to get on the plane.  Do those things in the wrong order and you’re in trouble.  But put first things first and you’ll be just fine.

Before you move into that new house you’ve got to make sure the water and electricity have been turned on, paint the walls, pick out the furniture, and then unpack your boxes!  Do those things in the wrong order and you’re in trouble.  But put first things first and you’ll be just fine.

Before you do anything of significance, it’s important to think it through and to put first things first.

Putting First Things First as a Church

As we begin this new year together, we want to begin by putting first things first.

For us as a church that means getting back to our mission and vision.  Remembering who we are and what we’re called to do in this world for Christ!

At First Colony, we say it this way…

We exist to honor God and lead people into a growing relationship with Him.

That’s WHY we’re here!  HOW do we do that?  We want to…

GATHER

Gather in large groups to praise and in smaller groups to connect.

GROW

Grow as lifelong, enthusiastic followers of Jesus.

GO

Go make a bold difference at home, at church, in the community and beyond.

Over the next few weeks we’ll talk about putting First Things First at First Colony Church of Christ.  I hope you’ll join us this Sunday and invite a friend to come with you.  Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you soon!
